Abstract: 6 pages in length. The sociopolitical battle that revolves around the aspect of private property has been an ongoing one throughout the centuries as theorists and laypeople alike have argued the benefits and drawbacks to permitting the common people to possess property apart from governmental influence. Two of the most outspoken opinions come from Locke and Rousseau, a duality that while sharing some common ground also illustrates the division between both sides of the issue.
