Abstract: 7 pages in length. Comparing Rousseau's "The Social Contract" and Marx's "The Communist Manifesto" finds that neither man relished the way in which the world was heading, with both clearly acknowledging how humanity's quest for social, economic and political development was being foiled by an unrelenting desire for power and competition that, according to their insightful contention, would eventually pull apart the very community intended to come together.
