Current Status on Acromegaly

Abstract: A 6 page paper giving an overview of acromegaly, a disease caused by the over-production of growth hormone in the pituitary gland. Acromegaly affects older adults, and contributes to a shortened life expectancy. Though the same pattern of activity in children results in excessive growth and is referred to as gigantism, the observed effects of excessive growth hormone in adults are far different than those observed in children.
