Ghandi and Tolstoy; Perspectives on Civil Disobedience

Abstract: This 8 page paper considers how active resistance was advocated by Ghandi and how this can be seen as a pacifist approach that will expose the truth of evil. This approach is far form the weak and meek idealism that is associated with pacifism today; it was the tool of own of the most powerful movements of the twentieth century. In comparing the ideals with those of Leo Tolstoy the writer illustrates some interesting comparisons and differences. The bibliography cites 4 sources.
