Abstract: Austin and Wittgenstein on Ordinary Language: This 10-page comparative essay examines the postulates by John Austin and Ludwig Wittgenstein relevant to ordinary language. Like Wittgenstein, Austin linked philosophical investigations not to the construction of artificial languages, but to the consideration of the workings of ordinary language.
