Michel Foucault/Discipline and Punish

Abstract: A 10 page essay that analyzes Foucault's text on the origins of the modern day use of prisons. In this study, he relates to the body and soul of the individual in a manner that illuminates the way that modern states use punishment as a power system. As Foucault's arguments unfold, it becomes clear that he sees prisons and punishment within an overall framework that encompasses the whole of society. No additional sources cited.
