A Plan for Continued Education in Nursing

Abstract: A 5 page discussion of the importance of continued education to the nursing professional. Targets the specific curriculum goals of critical thinking, computer literacy, information literacy, and nursing informatics as critical components of an Advanced Practical Nursing Degree and addresses the manner in which these components can be addressed. Also identifies a means of touching up on areas of knowledge such as research utilization in advanced practiced nursing, healthcare policies/economics, ethics in advanced practiced nursing, health promotion and disease prevention. Contrasts the traditional approach of the classroom with on-the-job training and Internet Based and other forms of remote education. Suggests that by carrying a full time college load of twelve hours per semester the student can address the basic curriculum components identified above in as little as one semester. Suggests less time intensive approaches as well. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
