Enlightenment, Romance And Reason

Abstract: William Wordsworth in his Preface to Lyrical Ballads approached reason from the perspective of both poetry and Romanticism. The philosopher Immanual Kant approached reason from the perspective of Enlightenment. This 7 page paper argues that the relationship between Enlightenment principles of reason and the romantic emphasis on emotion seems, on the surface, to be diametrically opposed. However, from the Kantian viewpoint it is merely a step in the process to maturity of humankind. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
